Me and a bunch of other book bloggers from various countries got selected in the street team of this amazing book All American Muslim Girl by Nadine Jolie Courtney. One of my fellow street team member Neelam from thetsundokuchronicles created this AAMG book tag. I loved this book tag so much that I decided to do it.
Please follow her social accounts for wonderful bookish content.
Here’s a synopsis of the book itself:
Allie Abraham has it all going for her—she’s a straight-A student, with good friends and a close-knit family, and she’s dating cute, popular, and sweet Wells Henderson. One problem: Wells’s father is Jack Henderson, America’s most famous conservative shock jock…and Allie hasn’t told Wells that her family is Muslim. It’s not like Allie’s religion is a secret, exactly. It’s just that her parents don’t practice and raised her to keep her Islamic heritage to herself. But as Allie witnesses ever-growing Islamophobia in her small town and across the nation, she begins to embrace her faith—studying it, practicing it, and facing hatred and misunderstanding for it. Who is Allie, if she sheds the façade of the “perfect” all-American girl? What does it mean to be a “Good Muslim?” And can a Muslim girl in America ever truly fit in?
You are welcome to do this book tag if you like.
Allie is the MC in All American Muslim Girl and when we meet her she begins to go through a journey of self discovery and finding where she belongs.
1) Share a book where the character goes through a journey of self discovery or about belonging.
I think Zafira and Nasir from “We Hunt the Flame” went through this journey of self discovery and belonging in their own way. Also, I read this book “How to save a life by Sara Zarr where the main character Jill goes through her own journey of self discovery when her father dies.
Allie becomes friends with Dua when she meets her at a MSA fundraiser. Dua becomes a really great friend who is really supportive of Allie and her journey.
2) What books have great female friendships?
I read about great female friendships in one of the series by Nora Roberts called ‘The Bride Quartet’.
Allie likes Wells but she’s afraid of telling him she is Muslim but he is very open and understanding.
3) What book has a great supportive and understanding male MC?
Atticus from To Kill a Mocking Bird was a great and understanding Male MC. Also, Adam from Love from A to Z.
Allie joins a Quran class and meets a great group of Muslim girls.
4) What book has a great group of friends? #SquadGoals
A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas, Winter by Marissa Meyer, Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo and We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal. All these books have some amazing group of friends.
Jack Henderson makes a living from spreading hate and perpetuating stereotypes of Muslims.
5) What book deals with difficult issues? E.g. Islamophobia or racism
Love from A to Z by S.K Ali deals with this important topic of Islamophobia and The Selection Series by Kiera Cass deals with this wide topic of racism in a dystopian world.
Allie has a wonderful relationship with her parents.
6) What books have supportive parents?
I think Auggie’s parents were very supportive in Wonder by R.J. Palacio. When I was in school I read Matilda by Roald Dahl. I loved how Matilda’s teacher Miss Honey was supportive of Matilda’s extra ordinary talents and accepted her for who she was. I also read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in school. Despite of their family’s low income situation, Charlie’s parents were supportive, even his grandparents and specially grandpa Joe.
Okay! So these are all my answers. I have yet to read so many books with diverse topics. I am hoping to read them in the upcoming years. Hope you liked my answers.
I love your answers! Adam is absolutely adorable. I loved him so much!
