Goodreads Synopsis:
The Fickle Mermaid is a modern, poetic retelling of The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson.
When a young mermaid called Cordelia rescues Nikolai, a stunning but troubled model from a watery grave she becomes besotted with him. Cordelia would do anything to be at his side, including sell her soul to a sinister sea witch.
My Review:
“Not to our knowledge,
and out of reach
beyond green pastures,
there lay a beach.
This is where our tale takes place
of a creature not born
of a human race.
A fickle finned thing”
Thanks to the author Sophie Bowns for sending me this book to read in review.
For those of you who do not know, I love mermaid tales a lot and I will read any and every book written on mermaids. This book is a short poetic story on a fickle mermaid. I do enjoy reading short poetic books.
The name of the book itself is kind of fascinating. This 90 pages ebook was a light read and yet the poetry intrigued me so. Towards the end of the book, I was left heartbroken. I did mind that the ending was changed because I feel that the author told her own tale of the mermaid in her own unique and poetic way. It was beautifully penned. Apart from a few mistakes, I felt all the raw emotions oozing out of this poetic tale.
Really appreciate how the author tried to portray my favorite tale into a poetic form.
